Standing Desk Frame Packaging: Materials And Packing Methods

  • Reliable packaging is an important part of standing desk frame manufacturing. A desk frame contains long steel components, powder-coated surfaces, motors, controllers, cables and other accessories. Each part must remain separated and properly secured during storage and transportation.

Common Packaging Materials

1.EPE Protective Packaging

EPE foam can be cut and shaped around different components, making it suitable for desk frames with complex structures or irregularly shaped parts.

Its main advantages include:

  • Relatively economical material cost.

  • High flexibility for customized packaging layouts.

  • Strong cushioning and shock-absorption performance.

  • Components can be placed in dedicated slots to reduce movement.

EPE packaging normally does not require every component to be individually bagged unless the customer has specific surface-protection requirements.

However, destination-market regulations and customer sustainability policies should be confirmed before selecting EPE.

2.Honeycomb Paper Packaging

Honeycomb paper is a paper-based packaging solution commonly considered for export projects with environmental requirements.

It provides a structured layout for long steel components and can be designed with separate compartments for columns, feet, crossbars and accessories.

Compared with EPE, honeycomb packaging normally requires more manual assembly and may have a higher overall packaging cost. The material is also relatively firm, so powder-coated components generally need PE bags, bubble bags or other protective layers to prevent direct surface contact.

Its moldability is more limited, which can make irregular components more difficult to arrange.

3.Molded Pulp Trays

Molded pulp, sometimes called a paper tray or molded paper insert, is another paper-based packaging option suitable for selected export projects.

After the mold has been completed, the unit cost can be competitive for products with stable structures and larger production quantities.

The main considerations are:

  • Initial tooling costs are relatively high.

  • The packaging shape is fixed after tooling.

  • It is normally suitable for one product or a limited group of similar products.

  • Cushioning performance is generally lower than EPE.

  • Protective bags may still be required for powder-coated parts.

Molded pulp is therefore more suitable for mature products with consistent component dimensions and predictable order volumes.

4.Corrugated Packaging for Individual Components

Corrugated cardboard can be used to package individual components such as telescopic bars, controllers, desk feet, side brackets and accessory kits.

Common structures include:

  • Folded corrugated inserts.

  • Internal cardboard dividers.

  • Small mailer-style cartons.

  • Long tuck-end cartons.

  • Compartment boxes for multiple accessories.

This option is flexible and can be adjusted according to the component size, quantity and shipping method.

Common Packing Methods

Split Packaging

Split packaging is the most commonly used method for standard standing desk frames.

Columns, feet, side brackets, crossbars and other steel components are placed in separate slots so that their painted surfaces do not touch each other.

Controllers, handsets, power cables, hooks and small accessories are positioned according to the available packaging space. They may be packed separately or grouped into dedicated accessory compartments.

When powder-coated components must overlap, protective materials such as PE bags, bubble bags or air-column packaging are added between the parts.

For honeycomb paper packaging, powder-coated components should generally be individually bagged. EPE packaging normally provides direct separation and may not require additional bags unless specifically requested.

Folding Frame Packaging

Foldable desk frames require a different packaging layout because the frame and columns may remain connected as one assembly.

Protective inserts must be placed between the frame, columns and other metal sections to prevent direct contact during transportation. Remaining accessories are packed according to the same protection principles used for split packaging.

Single-Component Packaging

Individual columns, feet, side brackets or replacement parts can be packed separately. The packaging structure is designed according to the component quantity, dimensions, weight and surface requirements.

The same separation rules used in split packaging are normally applied when multiple parts are packed together.

Protective Bag Packaging

For lightweight individual components, direct bag packaging may be used without EPE, honeycomb paper or molded pulp inserts.

Typical products include:

  • Side brackets.

  • Desk feet.

  • Controllers.

  • Handsets.

  • Power cables.

  • Small hardware kits.

PE bags, bubble bags or air-column bags can be selected according to the component surface and weight. A common PE bag may use approximately 0.04 mm single-layer material, although the final thickness should be adjusted according to the product.

Bag dimensions are normally larger than the component dimensions to provide sufficient space for loading and closure. For example, a component measuring 300 × 150 × 50 mm may use a bag of approximately 350 × 250 mm.

Direct Carton Packaging

Lightweight individual components may also be placed directly into a carton when additional molded inserts are not required or when the customer requests simplified packaging.

Available structures can include:

  • Standard corrugated cartons.

  • Single-wall corrugated sheets.

  • Mailer boxes.

  • Long tuck-end cartons.

The final carton structure depends on the component weight, dimensions and transportation conditions.

How We Select the Packaging Solution

There is no single packaging material suitable for every standing desk frame. The final solution should balance several factors:

  • Product structure and component dimensions.

  • Powder-coated surface protection.

  • Cushioning and transportation requirements.

  • Destination-market packaging policies.

  • Order quantity and tooling cost.

  • Customer branding and labeling requirements.

  • Packing efficiency and carton utilization.

For OEM and ODM projects, the packaging layout can be adjusted according to the product configuration and customer requirements.
